I just had my first surgery ever. Had a small neuroma remove from my foot. It had been there for four years and was just annoying me. That’s not what I want to talk about though.
Every time I go to the hospital or the doctors office I am appalled. I’m consistently shocked by how much information is on paper. There are sheets, clipboards, pens and paper everywhere, everything is hand written. Not only that, there are people in the offices whose job it is to check all these check marks, signatures and scribble. It’s just unreal. Lastly, the same questions are asked over and over again. Sure I understand the need for checks and balances but why the hell do I have to tell six different people I don’t have diabetics, a high blood pressure or rheumatoid arthritis? All these items are the reasons for high costs and inefficiency.

- – Allow for a centralized database, that I opt into, that the hospitals can tap into
- – Let me opt into a non-litigation contract letting hospitals know I wont sue.
- – Use computer kiosks to allow folks to fill in their information rather than clip boards.
- – Surgery tracker. Some method of tracking the doctor and progress of surgery so that folks don’t have to wait the whole day.
- – My history scanned into my insurance card. When I go up to the desk, scan and go.
