tuesday december 14th oh my god in this
episode you get a penalty you get a
penalty you get a penalty and conspiracy
theories about in the champions league i
have
a new extra man crush and his initials

but first mike
our spurs ever going to play another
game this season the covet crisis crisis
crisis is hitting the premier league
again we've got cancelled games what are
you feeling on spurs you're getting
better in the table without playing
yeah we are it's funny we've got games
in hand and we're feeling awesome about
it we're starting to get our respiratory
activity back which is good uh the
reports i've heard say that spurs are
uh going to be among the 99.9 percent of
people who have not died from this virus
which is nice and uh we're going to
continue on
playing i think what might be a weak in
leicester side look say what you will
about the fact that yes they were ill so
they didn't exactly get uh to rest per
se but these are not miles that we're
putting on these legs right so yeah in
some way i still like to think that
we'll be will be fresh for not just
thursday but saturday
the games are coming thick and fast
right and this is the best right
this is where you kind of separate the
men from the boys but one interesting
note on spurs as we talked about last
time that they were going to forfeit
their last conference league game which
we still don't know
the incompetent waifu still doesn't know
what to do
right and so there's a lot of
incompetent uefa going on and that's
going to be a theme among this episode
but
the latest news
that the yuri uefa conference league
draw
included
a supposedly eliminated tottenham
hotspur in it
and everybody's kind of like but but i
thought we were hold on a second you
said we weren't going to because of the
thing and with the stuff and the forfeit
well hold on what actually is happening
is last thursday tottenham's game with
uh ren was cancelled which meant they
were going to likely result they were
unable to reschedule it for before the
deadline which i believe is new year's i
don't remember who knows and again games
are coming every three days so it's very
difficult for spurs to be able to get
another game in um but they were unable
to agree on a time so because tottenham
were the
inspiration for the postponement shall
we say um they were going to uh have to
forfeit they were going to be suffered a
three nothing loss which would mean that
they would drop to third and vitesse
would take the second spot in the group
um
again most spurs fans myself included
were psyched about the idea uh that we
wouldn't have to play in the nit's nit
anymore and uh we would be able to focus
completely on the league schedule well
enter uefa
what's effectively happening is they
haven't ruled yet
they're supposed to
this is you can't make this [ __ ] up
they're supposed to rule that it's a
three three no forfeit and spurs are out
and in the event that that happens the
test will take that spot what they're
doing right now is they're having their
accounting team figure out how many
people in london might watch this game
and whether the tv ratings will be
affected if they lose tottenham which
in the premier league are a
not a power i won't insult them but to
the rest of europe they're a top person
big deal they're a big deal right it
counts to have spurs uh as you're
looking at this this this drawing

he got a yellow in a slew of yellows and
then stopped the free kick from
happening the red happened city were
going to win this game anyway they
dominated even though city looked weak
they had 25 shots and 10 on target so
they get the narrative that they can't
finish they completely batter wolves uh
chelsea three leads two hard done leads
lee's had the draw in the bag chelsea
get two [ __ ] penalties narrative
continues
two more goals given up by chelsea
where's the defense i know it's in the
pocket of angola conte where it always
is uh arsenal 3 southampton nail
southampton are the weirdest team in the
league they can appear to be incredible
and then appear to be the worst defense
in the league chel arsenal have a really
good goal where they build off her back

didn't lay a hand on him very very weird
goals liverpool huff and puff and blow
aston villa's doors in
um gerard does get the heroes welcome uh
tyrone ming's with his obligatory
penalty and mistake and then the wha
i didn't do anything uh

feels like he could have had a penalty
gerrard was salty about not getting the
draw i think villa were good for the
draw they hung on
but liverpool at anfield are nearly back
to unbeatable i [ __ ] hate it norwich
nil manchester united won united we're
back to oleish united norwich we're good
should have won this game at least good
for the draw ronaldo draws and takes the
penalty because
it's a penalty he's taking it has anyone
noticed that uh bruno fernandez has no
goals now he doesn't take penalties
some fantasy owners of his certainly
have i'll tell you that we're gonna talk
fantasy when i get to crystal palace uh
on sunday leicester city for
newcastle united nil i didn't even watch
this i just know that newcastle are
falling apart they're gonna go down uh i
don't think um
all the money i don't think anytime you

don't know if tilley was was injured but

which was a [ __ ] disaster oh god
i wake up this morning and i get some
text messages from friends
basically saying they [ __ ] up the
champions league draw
they have to do it again and i went
isn't it televised live they're like
yeah

so god i mean talk about must-see tv
holy [ __ ]
so what but here's the thing let's let's
use the stage though right if there is a
sport that thinks there's more
conspiracy theories it's i guess the nba
with the balls and the frozen ball and
the ewing like people in the nba think
the refs are out to destroy their team i
think more than any other there was a
time where they actually worked they
actually did have one ref that did but
soccer is way over the top beyond
basketball like people think literally
that this whole weekend was rigged
because for the big three teams all won
their games on penalties
so when united win it's because they get
penalties when liverpool win it's
because they get penalties when chelsea
win it's because they get penalties and
by the way if you look at the data the
number one team uh in penalties receives
is leads so
uh not so much uh it's actually not true
that these teams get extra penalties
but it feels that way it feels that way
because attacking teams get penalties
right because they're attacking speaking
um
over the course of this season because
of the new rule changes penalties have
been way way way down way down right
yeah that that's all that's stopped that
kind of they've they're back to normal
yeah yeah well nonetheless it's still on
average relative to the last three years
right yes um especially and like you
said though
the kickoff here was really weird they
called it yeah well right but the reason
why is because packing teams have the
ball they're in and around the danger
area they're making you know
different plays and they're they're
taking risks they're frankly they're
putting themselves in position to get
lucky unless you're raheem sterling when
you don't get caught
i mean that's conspiracy theory take
your take your hat off take your tinfoil
no they he really doesn't get calls it's
real i promise you all right but
he uh
so so all of this basically they go
through how much did they get through
like two-thirds of it
before they went through a lot of it
like they had no there was a full draw
and someone went oh wait a minute
how come athlete and and united weren't
so they literally they they take all the
balls they put them in the appropriate
places because there are rules around
which teams can play which you can't
play someone from your group you can't
play someone from your own country etc
etc in the round of 16. that goes away
after this round so you can only get
certain teams in your bowl basically and
they're picking them out and someone
figures out that
united doesn't have athlete in their
bowl
or something like that
and so because they did the whole draw
and everything was already picked and
not in the right
bowls they then have to redo the whole
thing so of course the draws come out
there's teams playing teams everyone's
ready like oh ah cause this is i think
there's a little another step to take
back
these
draws are part there's very little
actual content that goes on in soccer
like one of the things that's so starved
about it is there's really no coverage
right so these draws like the fa cup
draw is famous because it decides where
you're going to go on a trip so you
might have actually watched it and
started looking for tickets i was going
to say not only tickets but like flights
hotels it's not just the teams yeah
teams don't have to worry about it
because they have private charters and
they have hotels and whatever right
before but
i can tell you firsthand yeah i've woken
up at 5am eastern that it was the year
that spurs went to the final and and we
drew city and i was thinking about going
to that city game i ended up not but
nonetheless i was like i started looking
up flights at six o'clock in the morning
immediately after the draw yeah right
it does affect things like
it's one of the things that i think so
let's take another step back it's one of
the things that on the one hand makes
soccer really interesting and exciting
it's also on the other hand like
are you this is a billion dollar
industry you don't have a schedule you
don't know where you're playing what the
[ __ ] are you doing right like you could
plan it out a little bit better like nfl
playoffs at least they kind of know
who's gonna be in they have seeds it's
locked you're like you're gonna play
this person or this person right like
they don't do that it's [ __ ] random
right at least you can make contingency
plans right sure so you know ultimately
you know they have no brackets they
don't do it all planned out basically
the only thing they know is where the
finals gonna be and they [ __ ] move
that thing half the time
well kovid moved things but you know
baku and they put him in like who gives
you the biggest brown bag of cash is
where the champions league final is like
it's in saint petersburg this year
that's stalingrad folks

psg is dysfunctional and i'm not saying

right they have not played well for

difference because we talked about it
with united before we before we started
recording

what the hell day is it december 14th
when you're listening to this yes these
games will not happen until middle of
february
and within that three months
you've got
not just time to heal from injuries you
buy that unless you're still you have
time you have wrong you have time to get
hurt as well so that's fair but you have
uh time to to really get yourself out of
whatever rut you're in currently and
there's a whole transfer window between
here and there
so
i i'm
really not as bullish on real and that's
not to say maybe they go out i've won
ten in a row
but again

translates to quality it is the lowest

i don't know if that says anything about
quality
but it does say maybe it's
slow
and good for old players and and i think

and and i i i just i can't bet against a
team with him a neymar and and messi in
it messy by the way right now

i think messi probably has like

was listening to some podcasts and
just they found the right word and it's
city are just robotic
it just is the same and goes and goes
and goes it's incredible it's amazing
wolves have the one of the best defenses
in the league they weren't giving up

i love him i love his [ __ ] scouse
craziness of being in the middle of that
portuguese team and then of course what
do we say englishness in the premier
league you need englishness
and he gives them that and uh you know
this was like
a man like 45 at least 45 minutes yeah
it was it was pretty long i mean i could
probably just i could probably look it
up really quickly but yeah probably
somewhere
has got a red card late first half i
believe or
36 seconds from when he got right yeah
right at the half yes we got
41 got the red on 40 on 45 plus two
right right and yeah i mean this is um
you know this is a good fight from a
good wolves team and i was i was
sad to see them not get a point out of
that i thought they absolutely deserved
at least one for that for that effort
but it reminded me a lot of
um
chelsea early on at anfield uh down a
man and just fighting like all hell and
they ended up getting them they did get
their draw um but but
um
that was the one where georginio missed
no no i don't know i think so anyway so
but i mean the thing is is like the
narrative will say that
that uh wolves are incredible city had
nine shots on target
and jack reelish missed a [ __ ] sitter
and i mean
open goal shoots it over the bar he
needs those really bad i mean city
huffed and puffed and they couldn't
break through but 23 shots nine on
target that's plenty plenty plenty to
deserve the win so city
get their win that they deserve uh let
me tell you the one moment in this game
is
raheem sterling stepping up to take the
penalty
holy [ __ ] if there is a moment of of
heart and mouth like what are you doing
you terrible fat
but he's on form and he did it he he he
takes the softest shots i've ever seen
they never seem like they're gonna go in
every time he shoots it feels like i'm
shooting uh clearly
he cannot get power behind his shots
it's that little kipper arm that he has
i think he has it on his foot he has a
little kipper foot that i think
doesn't really work character or
something yeah yeah so i mean city go
through that's fine uh the less talked
about that game the better just one of
those games then
leeds chelsea is that a five goal
thriller
chelsea get two penalties on ruediger
[ __ ] [ __ ] housing to the point that
i'm ready to have the debate whether the
penalty box should be [ __ ] round and
not a rectangle because the corners of
the penalty box are [ __ ] yeah right
if you're in that top corner and you're
facing away from goal and someone knocks
you over that's not a [ __ ] penalty
right you should not be because the xg
of that spot is like point one look this
there's there's one very simple
rule change that sort of already exists
was he
denied a goal scoring opportunity yeah
that's objective though okay but we know
it's not objective you know someone in
the box
