Young Men are PISSED and they aren’t going to take it anymore

So Donald Trump was re-elected today for a second non-consecutive term. The poll data is very interesting. Couple of top level things and if you want to find the data yourself, there are better places than this to fact check but these are my quick thoughts.

We have something fascinating to review – we have Trump in 3 elections as a control for the election with 3 different candidates – Hilary Clinton, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

The wildest thing is – Trump’s relatively stable or growing numbers. And the re-alignment of the electorate. The working class, or non-college educated are slowly but surely moving to the right. This is across ethnic groups. It started with white working class, then has slowly encompassed more Latino and Black votes. It’s not a PLURALITY of minorities of course but it is a shift from 90% for the Democrats to 70%. Which is a HUGE change.

Much of this change is driven by men moving right. As the USA has shed more and more working class jobs and required a degree for more and more jobs, men have been more and more left behind. This is long term trend that has largely been ignored. You can read about it here: Of Boys and Men or listen to: Scott Galloway

There was a silent and suffering plurality in America that Trump tapped into. Men. Specifically young men. This was there moment to lash out – as boys are want to.

They were tired of being kicked for being privileged for simply having a penis.

They were tired for being blamed for all the ills of the world today (the Patriarchy)

They were tired for being blamed for all the ills of the world EVER (colonization)

Mostly they were tired of being talked down to, or being shamed for not having the right thoughts that were prescribed by the right-speak machine.

And finally, for feeling the shame that they know they are failing. They know they have the responsibility of strength, courage and honor and had no way to full fill that. (or at least pretend they could.)

Maybe they are choosing Trump to feel a sense of the masculine?

Maybe they are choosing Trump as a role model (shocking i know)

Maybe they are choosing Trump because at a basic level, he’s a man, and they want to be led by a man. (people vote by their interests)

I don’t think there is a simple reason or a sound bite sized reason.

But we have to start thinking about young men and their needs because they have spoken and spoken loudly.
