On the election

I’m not upset that Trump won. I am upset that my wife is upset and I hate that people feel so connected to these results. Our lives are the same as they were.

I am upset at how little self-reflection there is. People need to REALLY listen to their fellow citizens. Really understand there is REAL grievance out there. People are WORRIED. And don’t TALK DOWN to them. Our fellow citizens are flailing for solutions and they feel like Trump is maybe a solutions (I don’t agree but… I don’t blame them)

I don’t understand how so many people are blindsided by Trump? What do they think 50/50 means?

The country has decisively made it clear that whatever this version of The Democratic party is? They don’t like it.

There may be some sexism built into the electorate. We have to reconcile that there are at least 3 states that vote FOR Trump and AGAINST Abortion bans.

There may be some racism built into the electorate, but there are woman of color who won congressional seats in states Donald Trump won (Michigan)

Can we stop calling everything an -ist? It may be true, but it you can’t shame people into doing things. Ask my children or husbands.

If you really believe that Trump is a fascist, tyranny is around the corner and this is our last election? Then you should be arming yourself, buying food and being prepared for Civil War. Otherwise? Why are you saying that? Unless? You were just being hyperbolic.

ON UNEMPLOYMENT

Finding a job in today’s climate is hard. I have applied to 212 jobs without an interview. It’s rough out there.

There is so much disruption with AI, I don’t think its clear yet that any administrative job that is about writing reports is necessary.

Soft skills are going to be more important than ever.Can you capture a room? Can you persuade? Can you move the needle with your charisma?

When you reach a certain again, you feel like Steve Martin in “Parenthood”. The line Dazzle me comes to mind. I have less to dazzle with.

Everything your parents said was right – get a government job. Get a job with pension. Make sure you know math. Everything my mother and father said was right.

Everything your grandparents said was right too – get married, settle down with a nice girl, have children. All things that we need more of.
